Stormwater FAQ

How is stormwater infrastructure and maintenance funded?

All properties (residential, commercial, and industrial) that contribute runoff to storm drains, ditches, ponds, or other stormwater systems are required to pay a monthly stormwater fee. This fee funds both the maintenance of existing infrastructure and the development of newprojects to manage stormwater.

What is stormwater quality, and why does it matter?

When it rains or snows, water runs off hard surfaces suchas roofs, driveways, streets, and parking lots. This runoff flows into the storm sewer system, ditches, pipes, and other infrastructure, picking up pollutants like chemicals, fertilizer, litter, and sediment along the way.

In Logansport, about 22% of stormwater infrastructure drains directly into the Wabash River with little or no treatment. Polluted runoff can harm both human health and wildlife, making stormwater quality vital to our community.

How is the stormwater utility fee collected?

The stormwater fee appears as part of your monthly utility bill and is paid by property owners or renters.
